In an era of accelerating technological progress and an inundation of information, what can we rely on as a foundation for our thoughts? Behind the facade of apparent progress, profound questions are often left unasked, even as challenges regarding nature, society, and the self become increasingly urgent.
What is required now is a flexible and creative framework of thought—one that does not stop at scientific inquiry but integrates the "Insights from the humanities" cultivated through philosophy, history, and the arts. We believe that free, transdisciplinary contemplation is the key to carving out new perspectives and ways of living.
In 2013, the Institute for Science and Human Existence (ISHE) was founded with the motto: "From a world that ends with knowledge, to a world that begins with knowledge." Now, more than a decade later, we feel the time has come to distill the "clusters of thought" born from our intellectual endeavors. To share these insights with society and expand the space for dialogue and reflection, we have launched ISHE Press.
Our mission is to deliver books that serve as companions on an intellectual journey—seeking new vistas beyond the traditional boundaries of science, philosophy, history, art, and religion. We move quietly, but with a steady step. Through these modest activities, we hope to deepen our contemplation and renew our perceptions together with our readers.
Our First Publication
The inaugural release from ISHE Press will be a collection of essays reflecting on the thought of three preeminent contemporary French philosophers: Pierre Hadot (1922–2010), Marcel Conche (1922–2022), and Alain Badiou (1937–).
Drawing from the discussions at our "Bergson Café," this volume explores "philosophy as a way of life" and the primordial question of happiness that intersects with it. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
